Project Description

BINNENALSTER

Description

Essentials about the Binnenalster in brief

The Binnenalster is one of the places that give Hamburg such a unique flair. Covering an area of approx. 18 hectares, it is the smaller southern part of the Alstersee, which borders directly on the city center of Hamburg. During a walk around the Binnenalster you can enjoy a wonderful view of Hamburg’s old town.

The location of the Binnenalster

The Binnenalster is framed by Jungfernstieg, Neuer Jungfernstieg, Ballindamm and Lombardsbrücke. This is where some of Hamburg’s most important commercial buildings are located, including the headquarters of Hapag-Lloyd, the traditional Alsterhaus department store, the Europa Passage shopping mall and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten.

Behind Lombardsbrücke, the Binnenalster merges into the much larger Außenalster, a lake in the middle of the city that is unique to Hamburg and is just as worth a stroll along the shore or a boat trip. The boat trips on Binnen- and Außenalster start directly at Jungfernstieg.
