The name “Avicii Arena”

The arena has been renamed several times over the course of its history. Today, it bears the name of the Swedish DJ and producer Avicii, who died in 2018 at the age of 28. The architecture of the Avicii Arena

The arena was inaugurated on February 19, 1989 as the largest spherical building in the world at the time (at that time still under the name “Stockholm Globe Arena”). It has a capacity of 16,000 spectators for concerts and 13,850 spectators for sporting events.

The Avicii Arena is an impressive architectural masterpiece. The spherical event hall has a volume of 605,000 cubic meters, a diameter of 110 meters and a height of 85 meters. The maximum usable area is 75 by 45 meters. The Avicii Arena only lost its title to The Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023.

The dome construction of the Avicii Arena is a unique example of engineering skill. It consists of 14,000 steel elements arranged in a grid pattern. The glass façade of the Avicii Arena is another architectural highlight. It consists of 4,000 glass elements arranged in a herringbone pattern. The glass façade lets daylight into the interior of the building and offers a view of the surroundings.

From there, they can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Swedish capital. You can see the Stadshus, the Royal Palace, the old town Gamla stan and the harbor. In good weather, the view even extends as far as the Stockholm archipelago.

The SkyView ride takes about 20 minutes. The gondolas travel in a circle around the dome of the arena, offering a 360-degree view of the surroundings. The gondolas are spacious and can accommodate up to 16 people.
