RODEO DRIVE

Description

Essentials about Rodeo Drive in brief

Rodeo Drive is something like the catwalk of Los Angeles. Anyone with money and/or a name goes shopping in the legendary shopping mile of Beverly Hills. And there are plenty of opportunities to spend your savings on Rodeo Drive. The who’s who of the international fashion, watch and jewelry world is at home here. If you can’t afford a stroll down Rodeo Drive, you can simply do some window shopping and, with a little luck, catch a glimpse of a Hollywood star in one of the posh boutiques.

The location and course of Rodeo Drive

Rodeo Drive consists of a northern (N. Rodeo Drive) and a southern section (S. Rodeo Drive) and runs for a total length of approximately 3.2 kilometers from Sunset Boulevard in the north to S. Beverwil Drive in the south. Today, N. Rodeo Drive is a four-lane road divided by a green strip and partially lined with palm trees. Property prices and rents on Rodeo Drive are among the highest in the world. Rodeo Drive is part of the so-called “Golden Triangle,” a shopping and dining district bounded by Wilshire Boulevard to the south, Santa Monica Boulevard to the northwest, and Cañon Drive to the east. The northern part of N. Rodeo Drive between Santa Monica Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard is an elegant residential street.

The history of Rodeo Drive

Rodeo Drive takes its name from the Spanish translation “El Rodeo de las Aguasdes” of the Native American expression for “accumulation of water”. In the days of Spanish colonial rule, fertile marshes were located on the site of the current road. Until the early 1950s, as urban development of Beverly Hills progressed, the street was little more than a horse trail. It was not until the 1970s that, among other things, the approximately 500-meter-long section of N. Rodeo Drive between Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard developed into an exclusive shopping and strolling mile, used not only by the wealthy and prominent residents of the area, but also an attraction for tourists.

Shopping on Rodeo Drive

On Rodeo Drive, everything that has rank and name in the international fashion world is represented with beautiful flagship stores: Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Brioni, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Tom Ford, Gucci, Hermès, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Ermenegildo Zegna – the list could go on and on. The who’s who of watch and jewelry labels is also at home on Rodeo Drive, with brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Omega and Rolex.

Rodeo Drive is also home to some of the most expensive shopping malls in the world. These include The Rodeo Collection, with stores on five levels above and below ground. Secondly, Two Rodeo, which was only built in the early 1990s, features boutiques from the fashion, jewelry, accessories and design sectors.

A special feature of Rodeo Drive is the street called Two Rodeo Drive, also known as Via Rodeo. Running parallel to the beginning of Rodeo Drive between Dayton Way and Wilshire Boulevard, Two Rodeo Drive attempts to give the impression of a typical European cobblestone shopping street with its fountains, a piazza, a ‘Spanish staircase’ and balconies (in American glossy format).
