Brooklyn Bridge Park is one of the newest and most beautiful public parks in New York City. The park is located on the Brooklyn bank of the East River between Jay Street to the north and Atlantic Avenue to the south. It covers a total area of about 34 hectares and stretches for about two kilometers along the East River. On its way from the Dumbo neighborhood to Brooklyn Heights, the park passes under both Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge. The park consists of a narrow strip of waterfront and, south of Brooklyn Bridge, six piers jutting into the East River. A continuous bike and pedestrian path runs along the entire north-south extent of the park. Brooklyn Bridge Park is popular primarily for its breathtaking views of the Downtown Manhattan skyline.

The history of Brooklyn Bridge Parks

Until the 1980s, the site of the park was still part of the port. Due to the increasingly large cargo ships, this part of the port was no longer able to cope with the volume of containers, which is why the Port Authority shut down operations on the Brooklyn side of the lower East River in 1983. Although there were plans for a park soon after the port facilities were shut down, construction was not decided until 2002. Work on the park began in 2009 and has since been completed.

The main reason is that from here you have a breathtaking view of the Downtown Manhattan skyline with the Financial District. The old carousel is certainly one of the most beautiful in the world. And where else can you ride a little horse with a view of Manhattan!!!? Another reason to take a walk through the park is the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, one of the most famous and best ice cream parlors in New York City.
